USCIS has renewed TPS status for individuals from Ukraine and Sudan.

Ukraine

The Ukraine TPS period has been designated to extend through April 19, 2025.

For individuals who already have TPS, USCIS has opened a re-registration period, August 21, 2023 through October 20, 2023.

USCIS has also opened a new initial registration period for individuals who have had continuous residence in the US since August 16, 2023, and continuous physical presence since October 20, 2023. Individuals qualifying for the initial registration can file for TPS anytime between August 21, 2023 and April 19, 2025.

While USCIS has not made any formal announcement or explanation of why the initial registration period has been lengthened, Meltzer Hellrung believes this may be a signal to those who entered on humanitarian parole through the Uniting for Ukraine program may be encouraged to file for TPS. This provides a more solid basis for Ukrainian nationals to stay in the US for the foreseeable future.

Sudan and South Sudan

The Sudan TPS period has been designated to extend through April 19, 2025.

For individuals who already have TPS, USCIS has opened a re-registration period, August 21, 2023 through October 20, 2023. For individuals who received TPS in 2013, work authorization has been renewed automatically through June 30, 2024. For those who applied for the first time in 2022, a new EAD must be requested.

USCIS has also opened a new initial registration period for individuals who have had continuous residence in the US since August 16, 2023, and continuous physical presence since October 20, 2023. Individuals qualifying for the initial registration can file for TPS anytime between August 21, 2023 and April 19, 2025.
