Switzerland

Meltzer Hellrung has the global reach to assist a range of businesses secure visas and work permits for their employees to work in Switzerland. Our strategic approach and detailed understanding of the country’s immigration requirements and laws ensure that the chosen solutions are appropriate as well as legally compliant.

Switzerland is not a member of the EU but does have treaties in place that allow it to participate in the EU market. As a result, foreign nationals from EU and European Free Trade Association countries will have an easier time getting work permits approved. Note that the country has quotas for foreign workers from non-EU countries for work assignments longer than four months.

The main types of work permits are listed below.

L Permit: This permit is issued for work assignments of up to one year. It also applies to intercompany transfers.

B Permit: This option applies to work assignments over one year.

G Permit: This permit is limited to workers commuting from a cross-border country. Third-country foreign nationals can qualify for this option only if they have permanent residence in one of Switzerland’s neighboring countries.
