USCIS Expands Premium Processing for Those Seeking F, M, or J Nonimmigrant Status

As of June 6, 2023, USCIS expanded premium processing for applicants seeking a change of status to F-1, F-2, M-1, M-2, J-1, or J-2 (F, M, or J) nonimmigrant status via Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status.

Eligibility Categories

There are two categories of applicants who are eligible under the expansion to file a Form I-907 request for premium processing:

  • Currently, applicants who have a pending Form I-539 seeking a change of status to F, M, or J.

  • Beginning June 26, 2023, applicants filing Form I-907 concurrently with Form I-539 seeking a change of status to F, M, or J. Please note, USCIS will reject the premium processing request if USCIS receives it before June 26, 2023.

Both Form I-907 and Form I-539 must be submitted in the same format, whether online or by mail using the paper form.

Online filing of Form I-907 may be done here. To file online, applicants must first create a free USCIS account.

Additional Information

  • The applicant and all co-applicants included on Form I-539 must submit biometrics to USCIS before premium processing may begin.

  • Premium processing is only available for change of status requests, not for applicants seeking an extension of stay in M-1 or M-2 status.

  • USCIS may reject Form I-907 and/or Form I-539 if it is submitted with another benefit request, including multiple Form I-907 requests filed together.
