USCIS Announces New Vetting Center Focused on Enhanced Immigration Screening

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the establishment of a new USCIS Vetting Center, a centralized unit designed to expand the agency’s screening and fraud-detection capabilities across the immigration system. The new center will be headquartered in Atlanta and will serve as a dedicated hub for enhanced national security and public safety reviews.

The Vetting Center will consolidate existing screening functions currently performed at USCIS field offices and processing centers throughout the U.S. and introduce more advanced tools, including artificial intelligence and a broader range of classified and unclassified data sources. Once fully operational, the unit will conduct supplemental reviews of both pending and previously approved applications, with particular focus on applicants from presidentially designated countries of concern.

Impact for Employers and Foreign Nationals

Employers and foreign nationals should anticipate the potential for:

– Longer or less predictable adjudication timelines as USCIS implements more extensive screening of all benefit requests;

– Additional Requests for Evidence (RFEs) or follow-up inquiries based upon the new review protocols; and

– Closer scrutiny of applications filed by individuals from countries categorized as higher-risk.

At this time, USCIS has not released an implementation timeline or detailed guidance on operational impacts. MH will continue monitoring developments as the agency rolls out the Vetting Center and related initiatives.
