About Voyager

We launched our proprietary immigration platform Voyager in April 2022. Voyager transforms the way Meltzer Hellrung operates by replacing commercially available tools for interacting with clients and serves as our operating system. The platform collects information from companies and foreign employees, manages internal workflow, tracks active application processes, and serves as a repository of immigration documentation.
Meltzer Hellrung seeks a Sr Paralegal depending on experience level). As a Paralegal, you will utilize your existing employment-based immigration experience to partner with internal legal teams and provide account management services to assigned clients and stakeholders. Our paralegals work in close collaboration with each other, our attorneys, and our clients. Paralegals drive processes to completion and take on the significant client account management responsibilities.

Duties: 

  • In conjunction with attorneys, provide account management services to assigned clients, and  completing the following duties:
    • Opening profiles or processes in Voyager, collecting and organizing documents from  clients/foreign nationals, following up on needed/missing items.
    • Drafting assigned applications for clients, including all forms and letters, and preparing  assembled application for attorney review prior to government submission.
    • Complete PERM processes from initiation to final submission, as assigned. Initiating/preparing I 140 and/or AOS following PERM.
    • Where applicable, assign appropriate cases and tasks to junior paralegals for completion  (process initiations, form preparation, final assembly, and relevant communications).
    • As assigned by senior paralegals and/or team lead, assist with application preparation for other  clients, including I-140/AOS, RFE responses, L-1s, and/or global management as appropriate.
    • Manage and/or support others in larger client accounts, as required.
  • Manage assigned client accounts with general oversight from attorney(s), pushing processes  forward based on own initiative, and completing assignments within firm expectation. 
  • Monitor emails and chat messages, responding to internal requests from senior legal team and/or  responding to external stakeholders as required. Meltzer Hellrung guarantees a one business day  response time to client communication. 
  • Support assigned clients in data reporting as needed, such as expiration reports, initiation  projections, status reports, etc. 
  • Responsible for reviewing updates published by firm and other legal team members to stay  abreast of changes in immigration. 

About you: 

  • At least 3 years of employment-based immigration experience in a paralegal role or similar  capacity. 
  • Experience with visa preparation on H-1B, PERM, and dependent-related visa types. Additional  experience with TN, E-3, and/or H-1B1 ideal, but not required. 
  • Experience with I-140, Adjustment of Status, RFE responses, and/or L-1 preparation preferred,  but not required. 

Compensation: 

  • Salary range: $55,000 – $75,000 (depends on experience level) 
  • Eligible for overtime on hours worked in excess of 40 per week. 
  • Up to 10% bonus eligibility based on base salary, dependent on individual performance metrics  and firm revenue.

– This position is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. 

– Employees who work within 60 miles of our Chicago office are expected to come into the office  three times a week. 

– Employees outside of the Chicago area are expected to travel to our office once per quarter for 3-4  business days. Meltzer Hellrung will cover all related travel expenses.
